Although Type 2 diabetes in children was once considered a rare ailment, it has become much more commonplace in the United States. The increase in prevalence has led to a need for new and better treatments. If your child has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, or demonstrates signs and symptoms of diabetes we encourage you to contact us about participation in the Type 2 diabetes clinical trial.
Type 2 diabetes has some specific symptoms, but is determined through a test of blood sugar levels. The symptoms of Type 2 diabetes often become apparent shortly after onset of puberty and it is considered that members of certain ethnic groups may be at increased risk.
When Type 2 diabetes occurs the body is no longer able to regulate insulin levels and blood sugar levels increase. If blood sugar levels remain high for too long, damage can occur in organs creating additional health problems. It is therefore important to not only recognize Type 2 diabetes early, it is important to engage in treatment. Please contact us if you are concerned that your child may have juvenile diabetes.

About the Study Medication
Northwest Clinical Research Center has the opportunity to evaluate if blood sugar levels can be controlled in juveniles with Type 2 diabetes. However, we need the help of research volunteers to make sure that the medication is truly effective. If your child qualifies for the Type 2 diabetes clinical trial, he/she will receive a treatment that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for regulating blood sugar levels. The study medication will be added to the approved treatment to see if the blood sugar levels can be controlled even more effectively.
What are the benefits of Study Participation?
By participating in this research study you are potentially helping to develop additional tools that may help to regulate blood sugar levels in children with Type 2 diabetes. Study medication and study related medical care is provided at no cost and we will closely monitor your child’s blood sugar levels. Financial compensation is available to those who qualify and we are able to assist by providing transportation or reimbursing transportation expenses.
